DPA deelt mee:
Siemens Healthineers neemt een deel van de activiteiten met radioactieve chemicaliën voor kankerdiagnostiek over van het farmaceutische bedrijf Novartis. Het Duitse medische technologieconcern gaat het Zwitserse bedrijf daarvoor ruim 200 miljoen euro betalen, zo schreef de Financial Times ("FT") dit weekend, onder verwijzing naar mensen die bekend zijn met de zaak. Beide bedrijven bevestigden de transactie tegenover de krant. De verwachting is dat dit tegen het einde van het jaar voltooid zal zijn.

Siemens Healthineers vertelde de FT ook dat de overname de PET-radiofarmaceutische afdeling, die gevestigd is in de VS, in staat zou stellen om uit te breiden naar Europa.

Siemens to carve out EV charging unit in bid to speed growth

(Sept 23): Siemens AG will set up its electric car and truck charging business as an independent unit, saying the carve-out will help the division pursue new partnerships and boost growth.

The new arrangement will put its electric-mobility unit on track to be more agile with more freedom to “define its focus areas based on business strengths”, Matthias Rebellius, Siemens’ head of the smart infrastructure division, said on Monday. The business will be well positioned to build its customer base in electric vehicle (EV) charging, he added.

The company is combining the division with Heliox, a specialist in direct-current fast-charging solutions for electric buses and trucks that Siemens recently acquired. The move follows Siemens’ decision two years ago to bundle its charging activities into a separate unit.

Munich-based Siemens has a history of carving out and then selling or listing business units, as the company strives to focus on its core competencies in factory automation and software solutions. In May, the company agreed to sell its heavy-duty electric motors unit Innomotics to KPS Capital Partners for €3.50 billion (US$3.90 billion or RM16.35 billion). In recent years, it has also separately listed the medical-equipment business, now Siemens Healthineers AG, and its energy division, now Siemens Energy AG.

Siemens didn’t elaborate on its plans for the eMobility unit, which makes hardware, software and services for EV charging, with production and research and development sites in Germany, Portugal, the US, India and the Netherlands.

The move also echoes the strategy at rival ABB Ltd, which initiated a carve-out of its EV-charging operations in 2021 and since planned an initial public offering (IPO) of the unit.

ABB has postponed the IPO of its unit, citing unfavourable market conditions. Nevertheless, the Swiss company has raised a combined 525 million Swiss francs (US$617 million or RM2.60 billion) for the business in two pre-IPO rounds in November 2022 and February 2023. ABB is now weighing a sale of some of its electric mobility assets, which includes EV charging stations worldwide as well as research and development facilities in China.

Siemens gaat meer dan 6.000 banen schrappen bij zijn onderdelen automatisering en oplaadstations voor elektrische auto's, om concurrerender te worden. Dat maakte het Duitse bedrijf dinsdag bekend.

Siemens heeft de overname de Amerikaanse softwaremaker Altair Engineering afgerond voor 10 miljard dollar. Dat maakte het Duitse technologiebedrijf woensdag bekend. Altair is een leidende softwareaanbieder voor de markt van industriële simulatie en analyse. De overname versterkt de positie van Siemens in industriële kunstmatige intelligentie (AI). Door industriële simulaties toegankelijker te maken, kunnen ook kleinere bedrijven straks complexe producten sneller naar de markt brengen, belooft Siemens.

De multinational zal in de komende jaren volop profiteren van de Duitse infrastructuurinvesteringen, Europa’s Clean Industrial Deal (met subsidies voor energietransitie en elektrificatie) en de mogelijke heropbouw van Oekraïne, die ook spoorwegen en elektriciteitsnetwerken omvat.
Daarnaast blijft de Smart Infrastructure-divisie profiteren van de sterk groeiende vraag naar elektrificatie van gebouwen, de uitbreiding van elektriciteitsnetwerken en de bouw van data centers, terwijl de vraag naar automatiseringshardware na twee zwakke jaren voor een cyclisch herstel staat en de component software structureel blijft groeien.’ Hapt naar adem. ‘De structurele groeitrends wegen op tegen de allicht tijdelijke negatieve impact van wisselkoersen en handelstarieven.’
